The Bayerischer Wald or Bavarian Forest, fondly called as ‘Woid’ by localities, is a small mountain range stretching from the Bavarian to the Czech border. It holds the crown in being the largest natural area of lower Bavaria when synched with the Bohemian Forest and Neuburger-Oberholzer Forest. A dream of walkers announced a national park in Mountain region preceding the Czech border. Location:
The Bavarian Forest ranges up to 100-kilometer length and 1456 meters above the sea level. The North part resides in the Upper Palatinate while the South one sweeps the Bayer forest to the boundary of Upper Austria. Weather:
The climate of The Bavarian forest is very complicated and depends heartily on the altitude, the remotest of 300 to about 1400 m. The ancient saying “Three-quarters of the winter quarters of a year cold” runs in the air of Bavarian Forest. The elegantly mysterious forest holds the tiara of snow richness and refuses to pass it on to any other climate. This is exclusively genuine for the altitudes over 700 meters and the greater elevations above 1000 meters. In the ridges in the middle of the forest, the snow blankets the area for over 120 days and the Bohemian Forest up to 180 days.
The over the year average temperature is in the maximum layers ranges from 3 to 4 degree Celsius. And the temperatures in the valleys vary from 6.5 to 8 degree Celsius. An excellent regional cold air is present in sheltered valleys. It is present there in the early summer till frosts. Bavarian Forest is situated in the transition zone between Central European and continental climate, but mostly continental overpowers the weather type. This means the temperatures slip to -30 degree Celsius and summers are dry and warm with great thunderstorms and central ridges.
History:
The history of the Forest employs the three countries altogether, the present-day Czech Bohemian Forest, the Bavarian Forest and a part of Mühlviertel in Upper Austria. The name Šumava is over a thousand years old which was the original name. In the 6th century wandered the Marcomanni along with Germanic tribe from various parts, where they serve as Bavarians as “Baiwari”, “people from Baiahairna” meet again. Causes and sequence of these migration movements remain poorly understood, and there are still various attempts at interpretation.
After experimental beginnings in the latter 19th century, tourism began to foster swiftly after World War II died. As primitive as the media of the 19th century, the initial accesses were made to the present day national part area under safety because of their natural significance. The excellent rail and bus services assist tourists to experience the beauty of nature in the most refreshing way possible from the airport to the desired area of exploration. Few British visitors even make the whole journey from London by train! Breakfast in London, dinner in Bayerisch Eisenstein!
